Pirate Ship: CheapARR Shipping
A free, no-subscription USPS and UPS label tool for US shippers that is cheap and dependable, but it is US-only, lives on its own website, and offers no checkout rates.
Should you install it?
If you ship from the US with USPS or UPS and want cheap labels with no monthly fee, this app does the job well. Orders import from Shopify, you print labels in batches on Pirate Ship's website, and tracking goes back to Shopify. Reviewers over many years describe it as reliable and the chat support as quick and human. Check three things first: it is US-only, it does not put rates in your Shopify checkout, and rates are sometimes no better than Shopify Shipping. Also watch for UPS adjustment charges after delivery, and note that insurance covers about $100 and larger claims were hard (4721). The developer does not reply to App Store reviews, so the listing will not show you how complaints are handled.
Fair evidence. There are many reviews with consistent themes, but about a third arrived in a few dated bursts that look like an invitation campaign, nearly all reviewers are in the US, and the nine negatives are thin and spread over seven years.

- Stores outside the US: sign-up requires choosing a US state (7367, 1372)
- Merchants who need Shopify checkout to show carrier rates or add handling upcharges (3104)
- Anyone needing FedEx, DHL, or Amazon/Faire order import (4581, 5717, 3545)
- Stores already on a Shopify plan with discounted labels, who found the rates identical or worse (2715, 9843, 0380)
- Sellers shipping high-value goods who want strong insurance cover; $100 is included and larger claims were hard (4721, 9843)
- Stores that want everything inside the Shopify admin, split shipments, or gift-note import (1852, 7641, 0922)

How the developer behaves when it breaks
The developer has not replied publicly to any of the 184 reviews, including the 9 negatives. Evidence of fixes comes only from reviewers: many describe chat support that answers fast and fixes things (0847, 7382), and one says product weights now import (1209). The negative reviewers describe failures with account holds, claims and general support that went unanswered (8361, 2923, 7650, 4721), and the request to disable tracking auto-sync is still open as of July 2026 (7108).

Red flags
- Shipping was halted without notice and chat support asked a longtime Shopify Plus customer for a photo of themselves holding ID; the reviewer says this was not explained at sign-up. 8361

Trend
Review volume jumped in the last 12 months (130 reviews, about 10.8 a month) after almost none in the preceding year, so the recent picture is mostly long-tenure US users in invitation-style bursts. Negative share is 1.5% in the last 12 months (2 of 130: a navigation complaint in Mar 2026 and the tracking-sync toggle in Jul 2026) against 4.9% overall. Older problems (product weights not importing, no UPS, adjustment and insurance complaints, Shopify connection failure) have not recurred recently. Recent themes are price creep relative to Shopify (Jan 2026), missing integration features, and US-only availability.
