Multi-carrier labels and rates

OrderCup

A long-running multi-carrier label printer whose real product is fast, hands-on phone support — but its review record stops in December 2024, so nothing here tells you what it is today.

Should you install it?

OrderCup is a veteran multi-carrier label and batch-fulfilment tool that, by consistent merchant account, does the core job well: pull orders, buy postage on USPS, Canada Post, FedEx or DHL, print labels, packing slips and pre-filled customs docs, and push tracking back to Shopify. Its genuine differentiator is a small support team — Ed and Aloke are named repeatedly across 11 years — who answer by phone within the hour and will screenshare through your printer setup; multiple reviewers say that support is what makes the clunky, unintuitive UI workable ([9478], [0895]). Canadian merchants specifically call out being able to ship on their own Canada Post contract account and keep their discount tier ([4443]). But the review record has gone quiet: the newest review is December 2024 and there are none in the last 12 months, so nothing in this evidence tells you whether the app is currently maintained, whether carrier integrations still hold, or how support responds today. If you are considering it, treat this as a trial-and-verify decision — confirm it is actively supported, ask directly about the credit-card postage surcharge reported in [5064], and test your own carrier and batch workflow before migrating.

Thin evidence. Two independent problems. First, staleness: zero reviews in the last 12 months and only ~8 since early 2021, so there is no recent evidence about current behaviour, maintenance or support responsiveness — and the failures noted above cannot be judged resolved when no one has been in a position to report them since 2021. Second, no negative signal to triangulate against: 0 negative reviews in 80 means the entire picture of what goes wrong comes from five 4-star reviews and asides inside 5-star ones, and a 2013 reviewer [7616] references bad-support reviews that are absent from this set. Add 19% of reviews from stores under a month old, several written right after an onboarding call, and the record supports a judgement about what the app was good at through 2021 — not about what installing it would get you now.

Right for

  • US and Canadian stores printing tens to hundreds of labels a day who want batch label + packing slip + tracking write-back in a few clicks ([7616] batches ~80 at a time, [1587] 'hundreds of orders everyday', [4461] 'thousands of orders a year')
  • Canadian stores on a Canada Post contract account who want to ship on their own account and keep their volume discount ([4443], [0109], [7888], [5745])
  • Merchants who prefer to phone a named human and be walked through setup rather than self-serve — support does screenshares and same-day callbacks ([1472], [2923], [3105], [3236])
  • Cross-border shippers needing pre-filled customs declarations and one-click insurance ([5745], [6910], [7192], [4464] DHL international)
  • Multi-channel sellers running Shopify alongside Amazon and Etsy from one queue ([6910], [4490])

Wrong for

  • Anyone who needs current evidence the app is maintained — the newest review is December 2024 and there are zero reviews in the last 12 months ([3229] is the most recent)
  • Stores that want polished self-serve software and won't call support; reviewers describe the UI as clunky and unintuitive, carried by the support team ([9478], [0895], [4466])
  • Stores needing checkout rate display, a returns/exchange portal, or branded tracking pages — no reviewer mentions any of these, so there is no evidence the app does them
  • Non-North-American stores: only one UK ([6914]) and one Ireland ([3918]) review exist in 80, both brief, so European carrier fit is untested in this record
  • Merchants who want to pay postage by card without a fee — a card surcharge was reported, with ACH as the fee-free route ([5064], [4568])

What will annoy you

Setup friction — API/carrier connection and printer config need support intervention to get working: 4 reviews, steady, last seen 2021-09.

How the developer behaves when it breaks

Six public replies in 80 reviews (7%), all short thank-yous on 5-star reviews ([0109], [8271], [6750], [8779], [8066], [4377]). Because there is not one negative review in the set, there is no evidence of how the developer handles a public complaint. What resolution evidence exists is second-hand, from merchants describing off-review channels: phone callbacks within the hour ([4568]), screenshare sessions ([2923]), and logging in as the merchant to fix an issue ([5745]). [4399] and [3031] both report issues 'quickly resolved' over 4-10 year relationships, and [6910] says 'Many of our feature requests have turned into features'. Treat 'usually resolves' as a claim about their support desk, not their review replies.

What goes wrong 4 recurring themes

  • Clunky, unintuitive UI with a multi-day learning curve; support compensates for it 3 reviews steady, last seen 2021-02
“makes up for the sometimes arcane quirks, clunky UI, and unintuitive aspects of the software” review 9478
  • Setup friction — API/carrier connection and printer config need support intervention to get working 4 reviews steady, last seen 2021-09

  • Batch shipping gaps — international orders and bulk postage purchase could not be batched 2 reviews fading, last seen 2014-09
“There is one flaw I am unhappy with -- the fact you cannot batch-ship international orders!” review 4464
    Also 7888 4464
  • Manual field entry and merchant-built workarounds for order types the app doesn't cover 2 reviews fading, last seen 2016-04

What it does well 6 themes

  • Fast, hands-on human support — phone callbacks, screenshares, named reps (Ed, Aloke) 65 reviews
“fast response from the IT team. They always there to support you!” review 3236
  • Large, measurable time savings on order processing and batch label printing 28 reviews
“It allowed us to take a process that used to take around 6 minutes per order down to about 15 seconds per order.” review 814
  • Canada Post shipping on the merchant's own contract account, preserving volume discounts 10 reviews
“this app allows you to use Canada Post shipping and contribute to your own account to keep your Savings Level” review 4443
  • Runs for years without app-caused failures — many reviewers report 3-11 year tenures 13 reviews
“We ship thousands of orders a year - all via FedEx Priority Overnight and we have never had an error that was caused by Ordercup.” review 4461
  • Pre-filled customs documents and one-click insurance for international shipments 5 reviews
“it was hard to find an app that pre-filled customs docs, be able to purchase insurance with a single click and print packing slips/labels in literally less than 5 clicks” review 5745
  • Postage rates that beat the merchant's own carrier accounts 8 reviews
“their rates are much better than my own carriers’ accounts” review 8074

Red flags

  • Credit-card surcharge on postage purchases, disclosed only after signup; ACH avoids it. Reported 2014 and corroborated the same era — no recent review confirms or denies it still applies, so ask before you commit. 5064 4568
  • No negative reviews at all in 80, yet a 2013 reviewer refers to complaints about bad support that are not in this set — the visible record may be incomplete. 7616

Trend

The defining fact is silence. Today is September 2026; the newest review is 12 December 2024 [3229], and the precomputed stats confirm zero reviews in the last 12 months against two in the prior 12. Only about eight reviews exist after February 2021 ([0109], [8271], [3031], [4377], [7405], [4399], [3236], [3229]), and every one is a short, uniformly positive note from a long-tenured customer — no new-installer reviews at all since March 2022 [0109]. The bulk of the substantive, detailed reviews are from 2013-2018. Themes did not shift over time; support praise dominates in 2013 and in 2024 alike. Critically, the failures listed above should not be read as fixed: there is simply no post-2021 data in which anyone could have reported them. The absence of recent complaints here is an absence of recent reviewers, not evidence of improvement. That pattern — long-tenured customers still happy, but no new ones arriving to review — is what you would see from an app that still works for its installed base but is no longer being actively marketed or adopted on the Shopify channel.
