Synctrack Returns & Exchanges

A cheap, configurable self-service returns portal with fast chat support that will hand-customise things for you — but almost two-thirds of reviews come from stores that had it installed under a month, and the one merchant who needed carrier label integration was told it worked and it didn't.

Should you install it?

This is a self-service returns portal that, by the accounts of the roughly dozen merchants who actually ran it in production, does the job: customers file their own requests, you set per-item and per-reason rules with fees and deductions, and you can steer people to exchanges or store credit instead of refunds. The consistent strength across four years is the chat support — fast, named, and willing to have a developer write custom code for your store, which several merchants say no competitor offered them. The consistent weakness is that you cannot verify much of this from the reviews: 66% of reviewers had the app under a month, 21 wrote in under an hour, and nearly all of those thank a support agent by name during onboarding. Two things to check before you commit: no review names a single carrier and the one merchant who needed courier linking says he was told it worked and it didn't [8951]; and no review at all mentions the EU withdrawal button in the listing tagline. Install it if you want a configurable portal on a free plan and are willing to test carrier and EU-withdrawal behaviour yourself before you depend on it.

Thin evidence. Only about 12 of 130 reviews describe sustained production use ([6262], [3975], [2449], [6445], [5235], [0345], [1356], [4231], [8951], [5697], [7176], [5749]), and most of those are a line or two. 23 reviews have no text. 21 were written within an hour of install and read as solicited in the onboarding chat. The only dissatisfaction in the past 12 months [6368] has no text, so there is nothing to diagnose. That is a thin evidential base for a 4.9 rating, and it is thinner still on the two things a shipping-operations buyer would most want to know — carrier integration and EU withdrawal — where the corpus is simply silent.

Right for

  • Stores replacing email-based returns with a self-serve portal, starting on the free plan [2200], [0686], [4400], [4247]
  • Merchants wanting granular rules: different outcomes per item or per return reason, deductions for return shipping and restocking, store credit with a bonus instead of a refund [6262], [6445]
  • Merchants happy to open a chat and have support/dev apply custom code — hiding prices, changing button text, reworking the summary page, custom domain [5749], [6907], [2449], [5235]
  • Non-English-speaking merchants: support replied in German and French, and reviewers in DE, FR, JP and CN report being helped [3734], [5238], [0522], [6769]
  • Multi-store Shopify operators — one reviewer picked it specifically for connecting several stores [0081]

Wrong for

  • Anyone who needs the app to produce carrier return labels. One UK merchant could not link any courier and left over it; no later review shows carrier linking working [8951]
  • Merchants who need it to fit their process out of the box. Much of the praise is for changes support made by hand, which is not self-service [5749], [6907], [2449], [7813]
  • Buyers who want proof at scale before installing — only about a dozen of 130 reviews describe sustained production use, and most of those are one line [3975], [2449], [5235]
  • Anyone evaluating it for the advertised EU withdrawal button: not one review mentions that feature, so there is no evidence either way

What will annoy you

Bugs and errors during setup or in daily use that needed support to unpick: 6 reviews, fading, last seen 2024-06.

How the developer behaves when it breaks

Replies to almost everything, including every negative. Replies to complaints follow a fixed shape: apologise, say the team has emailed you, ask you to check your inbox — as with the 3★ [6368] and the 1★ [1819]. Whether that led to a fix is almost never visible in the thread. Real fixes are evidenced in a few places: the missing submission-notification complaint [5697] is contradicted by [6262] describing a full notification system, [6445] says a requested capability shipped about a month later, and [5900] and [0245] describe bugs being worked through with a named agent. Against that, [8951]'s courier gap drew 'will definitely consider it for future updates' and no review since shows it resolved, and [4181] shows no stated outcome. Replies are also sometimes very late — [7790] from Dec 2025 was answered in July 2026, [2899] from Mar 2026 in Sept 2026 — so a public reply is not proof of a prompt response. Note the reply text shows the app renamed repeatedly (Omega → Synctrack RMA Returns → Return → Revenue → S: Returns, EU Withdrawal), which makes older reviews harder to map to the current product.

Red flags

  • Malware warning from the app's own settings page. One US merchant clicked a 'visit our site' link inside settings and got trojan warnings from Malwarebytes, then uninstalled. The developer replied publicly attributing it to a maintenance window and said it was resolved; no other review reports anything similar in the 16 months since. Single report, not corroborated, not repeated. 1819
  • Pre-sales claim that did not hold: a UK merchant was told couriers could be linked, found they could not, and left. The developer's reply did not dispute it and said they would 'consider it for future updates' — no later review confirms carrier linking now works, so treat courier claims as unverified until you test them yourself. 8951
  • Free-plan durability is unconfirmed. No reviewer reports a billing surprise, but one long-term German merchant volunteers anxiety about it, and much of the goodwill in this corpus rests on the app being free. Nothing in the reviews tells you what happens if that changes. 1356

Trend

Volume is down: 32 reviews in the last 12 months against 43 in the 12 before, roughly a quarter fewer, on an app that has been listed 42 months. Composition has changed in the app's favour on substance and against it on evidence. The 2023 and early-2024 complaints about basics — bugs on install [5900], [0245], 'very basic' email templates [5900], no custom domain [5900], 'App is still being built' [1595], no submission notifications [5697] — have stopped appearing entirely, and the single long recent review [6262] describes a mature product with return-fee configuration, photo and video evidence requirements, store credit with bonuses and two notification routes. But that maturity rests on one merchant at one month. Most recent reviews are shorter, shorter-tenure and about support rather than about the product working over time. The only dissatisfaction in the last 12 months is [6368], a 3★ at 5 months with no text — no stated reason, nothing to verify. Because the precomputed negative share counts only 1–2★, 'negative_share_last_12m: 0.0' means no 1–2★ reviews, not no complaints. Also note the app has been renamed several times (Omega → Synctrack RMA Returns → Return → Revenue → S: Returns, EU Withdrawal), and three reviews are edited ([6996], [9029], [7311]) so their displayed dates are newer than what they were originally written about.
