MyParcel

If you are a Dutch shop shipping PostNL and you value a real person on the phone, this is a good fit — but expect to need that phone call to get set up, and check your invoices, because the only two recent complaints are both about being charged more than the app quoted.

Should you install it?

For a Dutch shop shipping PostNL from Shopify, this does the core job — pull orders, print labels, push track-and-trace back — and the support is genuinely the best-evidenced thing about it: real people on the phone, WhatsApp and screen share, named repeatedly across seven years. Budget for needing that help, because a dozen reviewers only got the app configured because someone walked them through it, and the error messages are unhelpful enough that a double space in a house number produces an undiagnosable 'Print error' ([5723]). The thing to check before you commit is money: the two most recent negative reviews are both about not being able to see or trust what you are charged — one cannot read the invoice export ([6430]), the other reports PostNL weight surcharges of up to tens of euros above the quoted price on a problem MyParcel allegedly acknowledged ([0116]). Neither got a reply, and the developer has not replied publicly to anything since September 2022. If you are outside the Netherlands, shipping anything other than PostNL, or need per-shipment cost accuracy, look elsewhere; the reviews give you no evidence on any of those.

Thin evidence. Only one review in the last 12 months, and it is an unanswered 1-star. The corpus is 55 reviews from a single country over eight years, with 36% of reviewers under a month of use and a visible cluster of five-star reviews written within hours of an outbound onboarding call — so the positive signal is inflated and mostly measures sales-call quality, not shipping at volume. No reviewer states an order volume, and only one carrier is ever named, so I cannot judge throughput, peak-season behaviour, multi-carrier support, or whether the billing complaints are isolated or systemic.

Right for

  • Netherlands-based Shopify stores shipping domestically with PostNL, including mailbox parcels (brievenbuspakket)
  • Non-technical owners who want someone to phone them and walk through settings or take over their screen
  • Shops that want label printing plus automatic track-and-trace on the order rather than checkout-time rate shopping
  • Stores replacing the official PostNL app and wanting more features and actual support ([3311])
  • Long-tenure shops that ship a mix of NL, Belgian and non-EU parcels and want HS codes pre-filled ([2498], [5723])

Wrong for

  • Merchants outside the Netherlands — all 55 reviews are from NL stores and the UI is only partly translated to English ([9557])
  • Anyone needing tight cost control per shipment: two reviewers could not reconcile what they were billed ([6430], [0116])
  • Merchants wanting a polished, low-click in-Shopify interface ([9013])
  • Anyone expecting to shop live carrier rates in the Shopify checkout — one 2018 reviewer installed it for that and found it back-office only ([3427]); the developer says this was later added, but no reviewer confirms it
  • Multi-carrier operations: no review names any carrier other than PostNL, so the 'multiple carriers' claim is untested in this corpus

What will annoy you

You will probably not get it configured on your own — a large share of the five-star reviews are people who got stuck and had to be talked through setup: 12 reviews, steady, last seen 2025-06.

How the developer behaves when it breaks

Almost every developer reply in this corpus was posted in a single burst around 6 September 2022 — including replies to complaints from 2018 ([3427]), 2020 ([6829]) and May 2022 ([5601]), two to four years late. Those replies are substantive and sometimes technically specific (e.g. explaining a 4 May server-level fix on [5723]), but four of them close by asking the reviewer to amend their review, in two cases before confirming the problem was gone ([5601]: 'Mochten deze problemen niet meer aanwezig zijn dan zullen wij het waarderen als de review aangepast zal worden'). Since September 2022 there are no public replies at all, and the two negative reviews since then — the invoice-column complaint [6430] and the weight-surcharge complaint [0116] — are both unanswered. Note that the reply attached to [5723] predates that review's current edited text, so it does not address the print-error complaint. Against that, reviewers consistently describe fast private resolution by phone, WhatsApp and screen sharing ([7625], [4361], [2993]), and one problem was fixed and the merchant called back within an hour ([8832]). So: problems get solved off the listing, but publicly reported problems now go unacknowledged.

What goes wrong 8 recurring themes

  • PostNL weight surcharges added after the fact, above the price MyParcel quoted; disputing one requires photos of the parcel on a scale. Only one review says this (the most recent review in the corpus) and it is unanswered — treat it as an unverified but current risk, not a pattern. 1 review steady, last seen 2026-06
“In mijn ervaring worden er regelmatig onterechte gewichtstoeslagen toegevoegd. Hierdoor kan een zending uiteindelijk enkele euro's tot zelfs tientallen euro's duurder uitvallen dan het bedrag dat MyParcel vooraf aangeeft.” review 0116

  • Shipment invoice export is unreadable: surcharges, discounts and shipment price are all crammed into one spreadsheet column, so you cannot see what each shipment actually cost 1 review steady, last seen 2024-11
“all the surcharges, discounts and shipment prices are placed in the same column. This is a hard to read and thus it is hard to understand exactly what you are billed for each shipment.” review 6430

  • Export and label errors with unhelpful messages: a 'Print error' with no detail, triggered by trivial address formatting (double space in a house number, Belgian house-number-before-street), and mailbox parcels exporting as normal parcels 4 reviews steady, last seen 2025-03
“Je krijgt namelijk zelfs al een print error als je bijv 2 spaties bij het huisnummer zet ipv 1, dat kan simpel opgelost worden.” review 5723
  • Slow, clunky, click-heavy in-Shopify interface and intermittent outages 5 reviews fading, last seen 2025-02

Red flags

  • Billing surprise: shipping costs more than the app quoted. A merchant of over a year reports repeated PostNL weight surcharges of a few euros up to tens of euros above the quoted price, says MyParcel acknowledged it as a known problem, and says customers are not told and no structural fix exists — 'MyParcel heeft erkend dat dit een bekend probleem is, maar klanten worden hier niet actief over geïnformeerd en een structurele oplossing blijft uit.' This is one review and the developer has not responded to it, so it is unverified, but it is the newest review in the corpus. 0116
  • You cannot easily audit those charges: the invoiced-shipment export merges surcharges, discounts and shipment price into a single column. Independent reviewer, 18 months before the surcharge complaint, same underlying problem of cost opacity. 6430 0116
  • Support silence on current complaints. Both billing reviews (Nov 2024 and Jun 2026) are unanswered on the listing. Every single developer reply in the corpus is dated September 2022 — there has been no public reply in four years. 6430 0116
  • Developer replies repeatedly ask the reviewer to change their rating, including on complaints the developer had not yet confirmed were fixed. 5601 6829 3427 5723
  • Key-person concentration: roughly half of all reviews credit one named individual by name. Service quality appears tied to specific staff rather than to the product. 5653 3103 2310 8989 1660

Trend

Reviews are effectively dead: one review in the last 12 months versus 18 in the 12 months before that, and 0.1 per month overall. That one recent review is a 1-star billing complaint from a merchant of over a year, unanswered. The themes have shifted in a meaningful way. The 2018–2022 complaints were about the software — slow, error-prone, Chrome-only, click-heavy ([6829], [5601], [9013]) — and roughly 35 reviews since then do not repeat them, so those are genuinely fading. What replaced them is cost transparency: [6430] in Nov 2024 could not read the invoice export, and [0116] in Jun 2026 says he was charged surcharges above the quoted price on a known-but-uncommunicated problem. Two reviewers, 18 months apart, neither answered. The support praise stayed constant throughout, but note it thins out too — the last support review is Jun 2025 ([1754]).
