Local Delivery ‑ LionWheel

Genuinely good own-driver route planning and dispatch, but the reviews show it usually takes a call with their team to fit your operation — and the 5.0 rating rests on 80 reviews, most written within a month of install and over half from one country.

Should you install it?

If you deliver with your own drivers and currently plan routes by hand, this app does the core job and the reviews on that are consistent and specific: routes optimised in a click, a driver app that removes copy-paste errors, photo or signature proof of delivery, and customer SMS with ETAs. The defining characteristic is that success here runs through their support team — the best outcomes all involve a phone call and, in several cases, custom development done for one store within days (5514, 7508, 2976, 6400). Budget for that onboarding call rather than expecting it to configure itself; the one negative review and two happy reviewers agree the interface is hard on first open. Two things to verify before installing, because reviews cannot tell you: what your plan actually costs for your vehicle count (only 5514 names a price, a $99 tier needed for multi-vehicle route splitting), and the free plan's SMS and delivery caps, which one merchant reports will block the account when exceeded (1185). Note also that the developer has never replied to a review on the listing, including the 1-star — support is real but entirely private and tied to named staff.

Fair evidence. 80 reviews with only one negative and 78 with text gives very little failure signal to reason from — the failure modes below rest on 1-3 reviews each, not a pattern. 56% of reviewers had the app under a month and about 12 wrote within a day of install, several within minutes, mostly praising onboarding chat; that is heavy solicitation and it inflates the 5.0. Geography is narrow: 45 of 80 reviews from Israel, so US, UK and EU experience rests on roughly 20 reviews. Volume has more than halved in the last 12 months (10 vs 25), and 9 of those 10 are fresh installs, so there is little recent evidence of how the app holds up in month six. What keeps this at medium rather than low is a genuine minority of detailed long-tenure reviews (1883, 4799, 9902, 9138, 2736, 5514) that describe mechanics specific enough to be credible, and zero reports anywhere of data loss, billing shocks beyond the free-tier cap, or support going dark.

Right for

  • Stores delivering with their own vans or drivers that currently hand-plan routes in Google Maps and spreadsheets (5514, 2868, 2736)
  • Merchants willing to take a 30-minute onboarding call and ask for changes — that is where most of the value in these reviews comes from (8423, 5514, 0350)
  • Stores that need proof of delivery photos or signatures: florists, perishable food, firewood, B2B catering (2736, 7508, 6400, 5514)
  • Multi-vehicle operations needing routes split per vehicle with selectable start and end points, on the paid tier (5514)
  • Stores losing local-delivery orders to expedited checkout, where Shopify's own local delivery does not fire (9138)
  • Israeli merchants specifically — 45 of 80 reviews, with Hebrew-language support over WhatsApp (5080, 0134)

Wrong for

  • Merchants who need it to work as shipped without a setup call — the app reads as complex or worse on first open (3880, 5514, 2976)
  • Anyone who cannot get a custom change built: several of the best outcomes here depended on LionWheel's devs changing the product for that one store (5514, 7508, 2976, 6400)
  • Stores wanting a cheap permanent free plan — the free tier has SMS and delivery caps that lock the account when exceeded (1185)
  • Merchants who want public accountability on the listing: zero developer replies to any review in five years, including the 1-star
  • Anyone shipping via third-party carriers — no review mentions a carrier integration; this dispatches your own drivers
  • Stores needing evidence of long-run reliability at scale: only a handful of reviews come from stores past a year of use (1883, 4799, 3155, 8439)

What will annoy you

Key needs are not available out of the box; require custom dev work or a higher paid plan: 5 reviews, steady, last seen 2025-01.

How the developer behaves when it breaks

No public replies to any review in five years, including the only 1-star (3880, January 2026, still unanswered). All the responsiveness merchants describe happens privately — live chat, WhatsApp, Zoom and phone calls — and by those accounts issues do get fixed: an integration problem worked until resolved (1883), a Shopify connection fault solved (4488), photo proof of delivery built on request (7508), the app translated to Spanish in a couple of days (2976), route splitting per vehicle built in about three days (5514), suggestions shipped in the next update (6291). So read 'no_replies' as a listing-hygiene fact, not as support silence — the evidence points the other way. The practical catch is that none of this is visible or verifiable before you install, and fixes are tied to named individuals (Guy, Tal, Noa, Pavel) rather than a documented process.

Red flags

  • Free-plan overage locks the account rather than just pausing sending; the reviewer says support will unblock it on request. Single report, January 2023, roughly 45 reviews since with no repeat — but no evidence the policy changed either. 1185
  • Multi-vehicle route splitting required moving to a $99 plan, discovered after install during the support call rather than from the listing. Only one review states a price at all, so the paid tiers are effectively unverifiable from reviews. 5514

Trend

Volume is falling while the first cracks appear. 25 reviews in the prior 12 months versus 10 in the last 12 (0.8/month), and the single negative review in nearly five years landed in that quieter window — January 2026, Serbia, 16 minutes in, 'the worst UX/UI design ever'. That is not a pattern on its own, but it is the first recorded instance of someone bouncing off the interface without taking the onboarding call, which matches the friction earlier happy reviewers describe overcoming (2976 in 2022, 5514 in 2025). Themes are otherwise unchanged across five years: route planning saves dispatch time, support fixes things and builds custom features, SMS and proof of delivery work. Nothing reported in 2021-22 appears resolved or regressed — the same strengths and the same need-a-call setup friction recur throughout. The short-tenure skew has got worse, not better: 9 of the last 10 reviews are from stores under a month old. The 2023 free-plan account-blocking report has no repeat, but also no confirmation it changed.
