GLS Shipping | easyGLS

A simple, reliable GLS label printer that German and Austrian shops keep using for years — but one recent detailed review says labels the app marked "cancelled" were still live at GLS and got invoiced, and the developer never replied to it.

Should you install it?

If you ship with GLS from a German or Austrian Shopify store and mainly need labels, return labels and partial shipments printed fast, this app does that well and people stay on it for years. Support by email is genuinely good — quick, personal, named, and credited with fixing setup and label problems within days. The thing to weigh before installing is the newest review: a 5-month user reports that labels the app marked cancelled were still live at GLS and got invoiced, and that support told them not to trust the app's cancellation status but to re-cancel in the GLS portal each time. That is a single report and the developer has not answered it publicly, so treat it as unconfirmed rather than proven — but if you cancel labels regularly, verify a cancellation in the GLS portal yourself during your first weeks and check your GLS invoice. Also assume no bulk customs clearance and, unless it has changed since 2024, no direct-to-printer output.

Fair evidence. 42 reviews is a small base and only 35 have text. The recent text is thin — of roughly 12 reviews in the last 12 months, 4 are rating-only and most others are one sentence, so the only detailed recent evidence is a single 2-star review, and there is no second account to confirm or rule out the cancellation bug. Two 3-star reviews have no text at all, so their reasons are unknown. A minority of reviews come from stores days or minutes old and read as prompted after a support fix. The positive picture on ease of use and support is well-supported and consistent across years; the size of the reliability risk is not.

Right for

  • Small and mid-size German or Austrian shops that ship with GLS and want labels printed from the Shopify order screen without a separate warehouse system (7787, 9560)
  • Merchants who also want GLS return labels and partial shipments from the same app (6305, 4606)
  • Shops already running the vendor's other apps — easyReturns, easyDHL — who want one consistent interface (8604, 7787, 9560)
  • Non-technical operators; several reviewers with no prior experience describe setup and daily use as self-explanatory (3992, 5167, 5812)
  • Merchants who value fast email support from a named person (Stefan) over a ticket queue (4981, 8439, 7989)

Wrong for

  • Shops where an incorrect cancellation status has real money consequences — the one detailed 2026 review reports cancelled labels still being billed by GLS, and support's advice was to re-cancel manually in the GLS portal (0991)
  • High-volume shops that keep large queues of unfulfilled orders open — one reviewer reports the order list becomes very slow past 50 open orders (3613)
  • Shops doing frequent customs paperwork — there is still no bulk customs clearance, and the developer says technical restrictions block it (8439, 0885)
  • Anyone needing direct-to-printer label output; at least as of 2024 you download the PDF and print it yourself (0800)
  • Merchants who want order line items or article numbers printed on the label as a packing check — this was refused on data-protection grounds (0991)
  • Shops shipping with carriers other than GLS, or needing multi-carrier rate comparison — no review mentions any such capability

What will annoy you

No bulk/batch customs clearance; developer acknowledges the request but cites technical restrictions: 2 reviews, steady, last seen 2025-10.

How the developer behaves when it breaks

Private email support is the app's strongest asset: reviewers repeatedly describe problems solved same-day or within days, often naming Stefan — a label-creation fault fixed "in kürzester Zeit" (7989), a migration-to-GLS problem solved (2791), foreign return labels fixed quickly (4606), requested changes built within days (4981). Public replies are rarer (6 of 42) and all sit on 5-star reviews; they are polite, and when the complaint is about GLS's delivery service rather than the app the developer says so plainly and forwards it to their GLS contact (6852, 4124). One feature request got an honest refusal rather than a promise: bulk customs is "ganz oben auf der Liste" but blocked by technical restrictions (8439). The gap is the 2-star review (0991) — a detailed, money-relevant reliability report from September 2026 with no public reply, and where the merchant's account of private support is the opposite of everyone else's: short answers, key facts only extracted after repeated asking.

What goes wrong 7 recurring themes

  • Labels cancelled in the app were still active at GLS and were invoiced; support said the app's "Label storniert" status cannot be relied on and every cancellation should be repeated in the GLS portal (single report, but it is the newest review, from a 5-month user, and has no developer reply) 1 review steady, last seen 2026-09
“diese Sendungen bei GLS weiterhin vorhanden waren und uns auch verrechnet wurden” review 0991
    Also 0991
  • No bulk/batch customs clearance; developer acknowledges the request but cites technical restrictions 2 reviews steady, last seen 2025-10
“Feature gewünscht: Möglichkeit Zollabfertigungen per Bulk-Ausführung durchzuführen” review 8439
    Also 8439 0885
  • Booked additional insurance (Höherversicherung) is not visible anywhere after the label is made — not in the order, not in the shipping history, not on the label; support first said it would show, then said it would not 1 review steady, last seen 2026-09
“Eine gebuchte Höherversicherung ist nachträglich in easyGLS gar nicht erkennbar.” review 0991
    Also 0991
  • Support answers to detailed technical questions are terse and leave key points open; answers only emerged after repeated follow-up (contradicts the general support praise, so read it as an edge case at professional daily-shipping depth) 1 review steady, last seen 2026-09
“Am meisten enttäuscht uns allerdings der Support.” review 0991
    Also 0991
  • Order list slow to load with more than 50 open orders 1 review fading, last seen 2023-10
“if there are more than 50 open orders, the processing time to load and open orders is very long.” review 3613
    Also 3613
  • No direct label printing — label is downloaded as a file, then printed manually (no later review says this changed, so status unknown) 1 review fading, last seen 2024-03
“Momentan wird das Label heruntergeladen und im Anschluss kann ich es drucken.” review 0800
    Also 0800
  • Initial GLS account connection can be fiddly, though support gets people through it 2 reviews fading, last seen 2023-03

What it does well 4 themes

  • Fast, personal email support that actually fixes things, often within days 19 reviews
“Sehr sehr guter Support! Auf unsere Wünsche wurde eingegangen und innerhalb weniger Tage umgesetzt” review 4981
  • Simple, quick everyday GLS label creation from Shopify orders; easy setup, low learning curve 20 reviews
“Einfach, praktisch, übersichtlich - so muss es sein! Diese App bietet alles, was man als Händler für einen reibungslosen Ablauf braucht.” review 3875
  • Return labels and partial shipments; pairs with the vendor's easyReturns app to avoid a separate warehouse system 4 reviews
“Retouren Labels können ebenso schnell erzeugt werden, sowie Teillieferungen.” review 6305
  • Long-run stability: many reviewers are still on it after one to three years 8 reviews
“Alles super immer wieder” review 3474

Red flags

  • Billing exposure: shipments cancelled in the app well before handover — parcels never given to GLS — remained in GLS's system and were charged to the merchant (0991). 0991
  • The app sets a definitive "Label storniert" status it cannot guarantee. Support's own workaround is to cancel a second time in the GLS portal, and could not say at what point a cancellation becomes "too late", even after checking with their GLS contact (0991). 0991
  • No public developer reply to the only critical review. All six developer replies in the whole review set are on 5-star reviews (8439, 4124, 6305, 7989, 6852, 2791) — matching the 0% reply rate on negatives. This is a public-response gap, not general support silence: private email support is praised repeatedly. 0991 8439 6305 7989 2791

Trend

Volume is modest and steady — about 12 reviews in the last 12 months versus 7 the year before — but the recent text base is much weaker than the older one. Four of the last twelve are rating-only, and most of the rest are one-liners (\"Intuitiv\", \"Alles super immer wieder\", \"App funktioniert super, schneller Support per Mail\"), where 2023–2024 reviews described concrete workflows: returns, partial shipments, replacing a warehouse system. The one substantial recent review is the September 2026 2-star (0991), and it is the first review in the app's history to allege a reliability problem with financial consequences rather than a missing feature. Older complaints have gone quiet — slow order lists last appeared in October 2023 and missing direct print in March 2024, with roughly 20 reviews since and no repeat — so those look fading. Bulk customs clearance is the one gripe that has persisted across years (March 2024 and October 2025) and is still open by the developer's own admission.
