AfterShip Order Tracking
It does multi-carrier tracking and customer shipping updates well and its chat support is quick to help, but check your invoice every month: overage charges, features locked to higher plans and a hard cancellation are what hurt long-time users.
Should you install it?
AfterShip is a long-running tracking app. It puts all shipments on one dashboard, sends customers email/SMS updates and hosts a branded tracking page. Reviewers across many carriers and countries say it cuts 'where is my order' contacts. Its chat support is quick and often gets on a screen-share to help, which is what most 5-star reviews praise. The long-term 1-star reviews mostly concern cost: per-shipment overage charges that go unnoticed, billing outside Shopify, custom domains, Royal Mail, webhooks and Klaviyo locked to $119-$239/month plans, and a cancellation process that keeps charging until renewal. If you install it, confirm in writing which plan your carriers and custom domain need, pay through Shopify billing if you can, and check your invoices every month.
Fair evidence. There are many reviews and the complaints are consistent through 2026, but over half the reviews come from stores in their first month and read as prompted after a support chat, so the star rating says little about long-term use.
Right for
- Stores shipping with several carriers or to several countries that want one dashboard and a branded tracking page (3364, 8801, 7090)
- Stores trying to cut 'where is my order' emails and calls with automatic email/SMS updates (3774, 2822, 8375)
- Stores using Klaviyo, Judge.me, Okendo or Gorgias that want a 'delivered' trigger for follow-up or review emails and will pay for Pro or higher where needed (7234, 6511, 9235, 3911)
- Very small stores that stay under the free plan's monthly shipment limit (0375, 2615, 6223)
- Owners who want setup help on a screen-share or Zoom call (5026, 6556, 2748)
Wrong for
- UK stores shipping with Royal Mail on the cheaper plans: reviewers say Royal Mail tracking needs Premium or Enterprise (0551, 0572, 9818)
- Budget stores expecting a custom tracking domain, webhooks or Klaviyo on the $11 Essentials plan: reviewers found these only on $119-$239/month tiers (2931, 3410, 3911, 4456)
- Growing or high-volume stores that will not check AfterShip's invoices every month, because overage charges build up without warning (7908, 3918, 3161)
- EU stores with strict cookie-consent rules: reviewers report AfterShip scripts and cookie banners they could not control (9257, 3114, 4456)
- Stores that pay annually and may want to leave early: reviewers were refused prorated refunds (2022, 2122)
What will annoy you
Surprise billing: per-shipment overage charges, charges after uninstalling or after trials ended, refunds refused: 40 reviews, steady, last seen 2026-09.
How the developer behaves when it breaks
The developer replies to about 65% of negative reviews. Until 2024 most replies were templated apologies saying 'we've sent you an email' (e.g. 2022, 2931, 5540). Since 2025 replies are more specific, and often argue that the charge or plan limit was disclosed rather than offering a fix (7381, 3194, 9818, 4456, 7103). Some problems did get fixed after a public review: a billing remedy (4004), a Zoom fix (2838), an Australia Post outage resolved (3761), a service credit (8933), a refund (5845), pixels removed (4647) and a cookie bar removed (3114). The two newest 1-star reviews, from September 2026, have no reply yet (3918, 3848).

Red flags
- Overage charges build up without warning as volume grows. One 36-market D2C brand reports ~$30k over the years; older reviews describe bills of $552, $603 and $12,954 on plans they thought were cheap or free. 7908 3918 3161 9884 8266
- Billing can run on AfterShip's own card billing instead of Shopify, and reviewers were charged for months after uninstalling 1629 4766 7908 4657 0568
- Features removed from existing plans or moved to higher tiers without notice (custom domains, transit stats, custom tracking page) 3065 6564 4224
- Hard to cancel: manager approval needed, chatbot loops, overages keep running until the renewal date, no prorated refund on annual plans 3918 4359 4456 7103 2022
- Trials run on Premium settings: customer tracking links broke and customisations were lost when the trial ended; a 7-day Premium trial upgrades to a paid plan automatically unless cancelled 7674 6449 3194
- Third-party remarketing pixels and cookie banners appeared on the storefront, which is a consent problem for EU merchants 4647 9257 3114
Trend
Review volume is falling slightly: 75 reviews in the last 12 months vs 91 the year before. The negative share rose to 9.3% from 7.8% all-time. Recent positives are mostly one-line agent thank-yous or rating-only reviews. Complaints have shifted: 2019-2022 was mostly sync bugs, wrong carrier detection and slow tickets; 2025-2026 is mostly billing, features moved to Premium/Enterprise, Royal Mail needing a top plan, and cancellation friction. Carrier-detection complaints are now rare (last in January 2026, and that reviewer said support fixed it).
